Kiwi was not very famous in India until recently when it began to be imported. Charif Christian Carvajal, Marketing Director for Asia of the Chilean Fruit Exporters Association (ASOEX) said, “India is an interesting market for kiwifruit where the demand is constantly increasing. In the last season, we exported 5000 tonnes of kiwifruit to India. This year even though we are just starting, the real volume of kiwifruit coming into the market have already touched 8000 tonnes, and we expect this number to be growing.”

The taste of kiwi gels well with Indian recipes and this is another reason it is becoming popular here. According to Chef Sanjeev Kapoor, “Kiwis are very easy to use as they are sweet and sour at the same time. It is a versatile fruit with which you can prepare any kind of dish, be it a salad, main course or even a dessert!”
